RECYCLING BASIC HOW TO’S TO FOLLOW:
The only four things accepted in RI’s mixed recycling program are:
- Paper, cardboard (flattened) and cartons
- Metal cans, lids and foil
- Glass bottles and jars
- Plastic containers
That’s it, RI. Please don’t place anything else made of natural fibers, metal, glass, or plastic in your mixed recycling bin or cart. Nothing else qualifies.
And here are the two essential directives, too:
- Containers must be empty at a minimum, but rinsed whenever possible
- No plastic bags (including no recycling set out inside of plastic bags)

Also Known as RI Eco-Depot
RI Resource Recovery has partnered with DART Container to host a container at the Small Vehicle Area (at the Central Landfill, Johnston, RI) to drop off polystyrene (Styrofoam).
How to prepare for drop off: Foam must be clean, dry and bagged in clear or translucent bags. Foodservice foam (like coffee cups and food trays) must be bagged separately from all other foam. NO spongy foam (think Number 1 Fan fingers) and NO packing peanuts.
