Dog Licensing Requirements 

Section 4-13-4 of the 1956 General Laws of Rhode Island, as amended, provides that every owner or keeper of a dog shall annually license their dog during the month of April.

Rabies Certificates & Fees

A new Rabies Certificate will be required if the current expiration date is earlier than May 1, 2017, in addition to the license fee of $8 per dog. Please pay in cash or check, made payable to the Town of North Kingstown.

Late Licensing Fines

After April 30th, the cost of a dog license will be $33, which equals the $8 license fee plus a late fine of $25.

License Renewal in Person

Dog licensing is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Town Clerk's Office.

Renewals by Mail

If you wish to renew by mail, please send your renewal to the Town Clerk, and ensure you include these items in the envelope:

  • Completed License Renewal Application (PDF)
  • Rabies certificate (if needed), which will be returned to you
  • Check for $8 payable to the Town of North Kingstown
  • Self-addressed, stamped envelope (with return postage of $0.82 or include an additional $0.82 for postage in your check)

Rabies Clinic

You may access periodic rabies clinics at the North Kingstown Animal Shelter, located at 395 Hamilton Allenton Road. A current rabies certificate is required in order to receive a vaccine good for 3 years; otherwise the vaccine will be valid for only 1 year. 

All dogs must be leashed and all cats must be in carriers. No dog licenses will be issued at the clinic. 

Record Removal

If you no longer have your dog, please notify us so that the dog may be removed from our records. All Inquiries should be made to the Town Clerk's Office by calling 401-294-3331, ext. 121 or 123.
