This past year was one in which our Town saw tremendous progress. We finished our fiscal year with our fifth consecutive balanced budget and operating surplus. Our Town received a AA+ Bond Rating and received the GFOA Budget Award. The grand opening of two new playgrounds and a new splashpad took place at Wilson Park and at our Beach Campus. The Economic Development Advisory Board held a successful forum on smart growth. We saw the implementation of a bike patrol and upcoming K-9 unit for our Police Department, as well as the purchase of much needed equipment and the return of the four-platoon system for our Fire Department.
2022 is promising to be just as exciting!
The renovation and restoration of our Town Hall at 80 Boston Neck Road is scheduled to be completed this summer with the Recreation Department, Council Meetings and other public meetings scheduled to be located there. Additional playground improvements are being proposed for McGinn Park and Yorktown Park as well as improvements to the various courts at Wilson Park. New trash receptacles will be placed throughout our Town with the implementation of a limited recycling program taking place in Wickford Village. Work continues on an ambitious proposal for a Recreation Center along with a potential upcoming ballot question on a new Public Safety Complex. We will be aggressively pursuing the beginning stages of the implementation of a sidewalk project along Post Road and West Main Street. Discussions are taking place relative to the appropriate spending of over $7 million dollars in ARPA funds.
Our thoughts continue to go out to those who have lost someone they care about or have experienced hardships due to COVID. North Kingstown will continue to do all we can to assist our residents and remain “open” in order to provide the valuable services our residents and businesses have come to expect.
We hope this information is helpful, look forward to the revamp and refresh of this website and wish you all the best for 2022.
A Ralph Mollis
